Haulway
Book a verified driver in Kigali, with payment held until delivery is confirmed.
The problem
Moving goods across Kigali usually means calling around for a driver, haggling over a price that changes on arrival, and paying before you know the job is done.
What I built
- Job posting: pickup, drop-off, what's moving and when
- Firm quotes from verified drivers, with counter-offers and chat
- Payment by mobile money or card, held until the delivery is confirmed
- Pickup and delivery codes that prove each handover
- Live trip tracking from the driver's phone, showing the last update and its time when signal drops
- Driver onboarding with ID, licence, ownership and insurance checks; a web app and a React Native mobile app
Engineering decisions
Escrow-style payouts
The customer pays before pickup, but the driver's payout is released only after the recipient's delivery code is confirmed or support reviews the job. Disputes hold that payout while they're reviewed.
Honest by design
Drivers see the 10% commission and their net before they quote. New drivers show "no reviews yet" rather than an invented score, and tracking never guesses a position it doesn't have.
Verification before quoting
A driver can't quote until their documents are checked, so every offer a customer sees comes from a verified person with the right vehicle.

What I learned
The trust problem in a marketplace like this is about money timing, so the product is built around one rule: nobody is paid until the handover is proven.
